BOONE, N.C. -- Andrew Lawrence scored 24 points as College of Charleston capitalized on perimeter shooting to defeat Appalachian State 74-62 Saturday.

Lawrence was 6 of 8 from long range for the Cougars (14-10, 6-7 Southern Conference), who came in averaging eight 3-pointers per game and finished 11 of 26 (42.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

That offset the Mountaineers' dominant inside play, with a 42-20 advantage in the paint and a 46-32 rebounding margin, including 21 offensive boards.

Appalachian State (9-13, 5-7), which was leading the league in 3-point accuracy (35.8 percent), made only 3 of 19 (15.8 percent) from beyond the arc.

Charleston made seven 3-pointers in the first half to lead 35-32 at the break.

The Mountaineers stayed within seven in the second half until, trailing 49-45, Charleston went on a 10-0 run, with Lawrence scoring seven points.

Nathan Healy scored 12 points to lead Appalachian State (9-13, 5-7).
