WORCESTER, Mass. -- Devin Brown scored 22 points and Holy Cross held off Navy 73-69 Wednesday night in a Patriot League game.
The Crusaders (8-8, 2-0) also got 14 points apiece from R.J. Evans and Phil Beans to send the Midshipmen (3-13, 0-2) to their second straight loss in conference play. For Navy, J.J. Avila and Jordan Sugars each scored 22 points, with 13 of Avila's points coming in a first half that ended 28-all. Worth Smith was the only other Midshipmen in double figures with 13 points.
Holy Cross broke the halftime tie to lead by as many as nine points in the second half, with 3:05 to go.
The Crusaders won the game at the foul line. They were 27 of 32, Brown making 13 of 14 free throws. Navy was 12 for 16. That negated Navy's 3-point advantage, the Midshipmen making nine treys to four by Holy Cross.
