BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Michael Glover and Lamount Jones scored 16 points each to lead Iona past Vermont 73-72 on Saturday.
The Gaels (9-2) went 15 of 16 from the free-throw line, including a 6-of-6 effort from Scott Machado and 4 of 4 by Jones. Vermont shot 70 percent from the line (7 of 10).
Brandon Bald's 3 for Vermont tied it at 68-68 with 3:34 to play. Iona (8-2) then got a layup from Glover and a 3 from Jones to go up 73-68 with 2:07 remaining.
From there, the Catamounts (4-6) went 2 of 5 the rest of the way, including Sandro Carissimo's jumper with 47 seconds left for the final margin.
Vermont lost its fifth straight game despite holding the nation's second-highest scoring team to more than 13 points under its average (87.5 points per game coming in).
Four McGlynn led Vermont with 19 points.
