James Madison 72, Longwood 70

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- Jomo Belfor and Cavell Johnson both had

18 points as James Madison survived a late surge to win 72-70 over

Longwood Monday night.

Ray Barbosa hit a 3-pointer with 41 seconds to go to put James

Madison (5-20) ahead 71-70, and Chris Cathlin hit one of two free

throws for the win.

But it was Longwood (1-28) who was on fire beyond the arc,

sinking 11-of-21 3-pointers. The Lancers were down by six at 68-62

with 2:48, but Husein Pistoljevic hit one 3-pointer, was fouled

shooting another and sank all three free throws to tie it at 68

with 2 minutes remaining.

Lamar Barrett's layup put Longwood up by two until Barbosa sank

his trey. No one scored again until Cathlin was fouled with a

second remaining and hit one of his shots.

Barbosa scored 14 for the Dukes, and Johnson added nine

rebounds.

Maurice Sumter and Michael Jefferson each had 17 for Longwood,

and Pistoljevic came off the bench to add 15. It was Longwood's

17th consecutive loss.
