Manchester City thrashed 10-man Liverpool 3-0 to silence a vitriolic atmosphere at Anfield and maintain their perfect start in the Premier League.

City took to the pitch for the first time since they were found guilty of 114 charges relating to the Premier League's financial rules and faced the full wrath of Liverpool supporters.

Ryan Gravenberch was dismissed following a second yellow card just after the hour and the home side fell apart, as Erling Haaland put City ahead in the 65th minute.

Substitute Jérémy Doku extended the visitors' lead with a wonder-strike three minutes later and Rayan Cherki completed the goal-fest to seal all three points.

Deafening jeers rang out from the stands each time City were on the ball but Enzo Maresca's men gradually took the sting out of the hostile atmosphere as the first half wore on.

Both sides lacked a spark in a half of no clear-cut chances and there was nothing to separate them at the break.

Liverpool emerged on the front foot after the break forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into two saves in quick succession, denying Lewis Koumas and Gravenberch from distance, before Alexis Mac Allister curled an effort wide.

Haaland scuffed a golden chance with his first touch in Liverpool's box, when Antoine Semenyo slipped a fine ball for the No 9 to race onto but his effort veered wide of the target.

Liverpool were reduced to 10 men when Gravenberch saw a second yellow card in the 62nd minute, and it was an uphill battle from there as Haaland made them pay three minutes later.

Doku -- who replaced Iliman Ndiaye in the second half -- saw his shot parried away but Haaland took care of the rebound, this time making no mistake to rifle it home.

City quickly worked up a second just three minutes later as Doku bent his stunning shot into the top-right corner.

But Maresca's men were not done yet as Cherki showed his brilliance again, sneaking behind the Liverpool defence to prod it home from close range in the 78th minute.

City remain at the top of the Premier League having won six games from six, while Liverpool dropped down to ninth in the table.

The Reds' last league defeat at Anfield was back in February when they lost 2-1 to Man City.
