Manuel Neuer error sees Robin Fellhauer score fastest-ever Bundesliga goal

Augsburg's Robin Fellhauer wrote his name into German soccer history Saturday, scoring the fastest-ever Bundesliga goal in a draw against Bayern Munich courtesy of a comical Manuel Neuer error.

It took Fellhauer just eight seconds to latch onto a loose pass from Neuer before tucking home into an empty net almost immediately after Bayern had kicked off.

Neuer received the ball from the center circle in what was the first pass of the game, before taking a touch and attempting to lift it over the midfielder, but Fellhauer took it off his toes and around the German keeper to put Augsburg in front in record time.

"The first goal we conceded was a silly mistake by me," Neuer said. "But I still had hope, because it was the first minute. The chance we could still turn the game around is big. I think we had the chances but just didn't take them."

Bayern had to wait till the 55th minute for Ismael Saibari to equalize, only for Rodrigo Ribeiro to restore the home team's lead nine minutes later.

Luis Díaz had two goals ruled out through VAR for offside before Nathaniel Brown finally equalized in the 81st.

"When you have so many chances, you've done a lot right. But when you make mistakes like we did that lead to two goals, then it's deserved that we didn't win," Bayern coach Vincent Kompnay said. "It was an emotional rollercoaster. We had the ball in the net six times, but four didn't count. We had chances.

"Obviously we made mistakes with the two goals we conceded, which is why it finished with this result. That's how it is in football. They're normal people who don't always do everything right. It hurts at the moment, but we move on."

It was the second time in five games that Bayern have dropped points this season and saw the champions drop off the top of the Bundesliga table, while Augsburg moved into fifth. Borussia Dortmund lead the standings by two points.

The Bundesliga recognizes goals to the nearest second and the record was jointly held by Kevin Volland, who needed nine seconds to score for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, and Karim Bellarabi, whose goal for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in 2014 also took nine seconds.
