England 2-0 Panama: World Cup 2026 reaction as England top group, Scotland out - as it happened

England got the job done with a 2-0 win over Panama to top Group L at the World Cup.

After huffing and puffing in a challenging first half, Jude Bellingham scored England's first goal from a Bukayo Saka corner, before the Real Madrid midfielder turned creator to assist Harry Kane who headed in to break England's World Cup goal scoring record.

It was hardly a vintage performance from Thomas Tuchel's men, and he would have hoped for more pre-match.

It was a largely incredibly slow first half, with a distinct lack of cutting edge and England were at one stage knocked off the top of the table.

Croatia took the lead against Ghana, putting England into second in the table.

That would have meant a far harder match against either Portugal or Colombia in the round of 32.

But England did eventually turn it on when it mattered, more or less bang on the hour mark.

Bellingham managed to just stick a leg in front of the defender and poke it into the bottom left corner.

Two minutes later and he was again the main man, this time managing to cut back and put a pinpoint ball into the centre of the box that Harry Kane was able to head into the net.

That was Kane's 11th World Cup goal, overtaking Gary Linker out right as England's all-time top goalscorer at the World Cup.

Panama did have chances, and England will need to improve defensively going forward, but for now, it was a case of job done for Tuchel and his players.
