She's the reigning McDonald's All American Games MVP, the Gatorade player of the year in California, the No. 4 overall prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100 for the 2016 class and a two-time gold medalist with Team USA.
Folks at Oregon are just happy to finally call Sabrina Ionescu a Duck.
After a long and unusual recruiting process, Ionescu, a 5-foot-10 guard from Miramonte High School (Orinda, California), committed to Oregon on Sunday night.
"I decided to really explore my options and weigh everything thoroughly before deciding on Oregon," Ionescu said. "I wanted to see those programs that just didn't tell me what they were about [but] show me as well. Oregon certainly did that."
Ionescu becomes the seventh member of coach Kelly Graves' breakout class, joining Sierra Campisano, Ruthy Hebard, Morgan Yaeger, Mallory McGwire, Lydia Giomi and Jayde Woods. Expect Oregon's class, ranked seventh in the nation after the regular signing period, to climb even closer to the top when the final 2016 rankings are released.
Ionescu's other finalist was Washington.
Ionescu bucked the trend of players committing early, and both the early signing period and the regular signing period came and went without a decision.
It's hard to imagine anyone doing more to make her stock soar than Ionescu did during her senior season. Averaging 25.9 points, 8.8 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 4.5 steals, Ionescu led Miramonte to a 32-1 record, steering it all the way to California's Open Division state championship before it fell to Chaminade (West Hills). Ionescu had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in her final game for Miramonte. Days later, she scored a record 25 points in the annual McDonald's All American Games and was named MVP. She repeated as the San Francisco Chronicle's Metro Player of the Year and earned her third conference MVP award.
Ionescu was the final undeclared player in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100.
Her twin brother, Eddy, is set to attend Oregon this fall as a walk-on basketball player.
