Admittedly, motorsports superstars Hailie Deegan and Brittney Zamora have a need for speed. Their ability to command the track is born from dedication, training and hyper-focus.
Deegan, 18, is the first woman to win on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West for Bill McAnally Racing. And Zamora, 20, competes full-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and part-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East also for Bill McAnally Racing in both series.
On Tuesday at the 2019 espnW: Women + Sports Summit at The Resort at Pelican Hill -- on the Women Going Places panel presented by Toyota -- Deegan and Zamora shared their insights on being women in the male-dominated motorsports world.
"With age comes the cage." -- Hailie Deegan on the importance of the protective cage that is installed in race and stock cars
"Cars are a whole lot safer now. I just need to know to get out of the car if it's on fire." -- Brittney Zamora, on the improvement of technology in race and stock cars
"I begged my parents to get me an off-road truck [as a kid] when most little girls beg for a pony." -- Deegan
"The hardest thing is proving yourself to the fans. They often think [being a woman in motorsports] is just a marketing tool." -- Zamora
