Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of India's tours of Ireland and England because of a left quadriceps injury that aggravated during last week's third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai. Reddy will undergo his rehab at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for at least a month, with a view to being ready for the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka in August, the dates for which haven't been announced yet.
Reddy picked up the injury while bowling during the first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala and was subsequently rested for the second game in Lucknow. He returned to play in the last game in Chennai, bowling six wicketless overs for 42 runs, after which he is understood to have complained of discomfort.
The development left India without either of their frontline seam-bowling allrounders.
Last week, Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the tour of England and Ireland as he continued his recovery from a leg injury that he aggravated while at the CoE for a conditioning session following his IPL 2026 season. That ruled him out of the ODIs against Afghanistan too. No timeline has yet been set for his return.
Shivam Dube (T20Is) and Harshit Rana (T20Is and ODIs) could fill in, but though they have useful secondary skills, they are primarily a batter and a bowler respectively. If the selectors intend to replace Reddy in the squad, Suryansh Shedge could be a like-for-like option.
Shedge travelled to Sri Lanka recently for the 'A' team tri-series, and did well with the bat, scoring his maiden List A half-century in a game against Sri Lanka A, while picking up two wickets in 23 overs across five matches, at an average of 69.50 and an economy rate of 6.04.
India are scheduled to play two T20Is in Ireland this weekend (June 26 and 28), before heading over to England for a five-match T20I series starting July 1, which will be followed by three ODIs. The T20Is in Ireland will be India's first since their T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year, and they will be led by new T20I captain, Shreyas Iyer.
