India's offspin allrounder Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the Women's T20 World Cup with an ankle ligament injury. She suffered the injury in the game against Netherlands on Wednesday, after which she was sent for scans. Legspinner Prema Rawat has been named her replacement.

This is Rawat's first call-up to the national side. She has played two WPL seasons for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and was part of the India A squad that is in England for a six-match white-ball series starting with the first T20 on June 20 in Northampton. Rawat, 24, was part of the Rising Stars Women's Asia Cup, taking eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.27 in India A's march to the title.

Patil was stretchered off the field in Leeds one ball into her spell, after twisting her ankle chasing down a ball that was hit to mid-on. The pain was immediate. She was seen clutching her right leg as the Indian team physiotherapist rushed out and was unable to put any weight on it, prompting the need for a stretcher.

The latest blow continues Patil's wretched run with injuries. A broken finger in July 2024 had ruled her out of that year's T20 World Cup. She then had shin splints in both legs before suffering a stress reaction in her wrist, which kept her out of action for close to a year. She made her comeback in the 2025 Women's CPL before featuring in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's second title win in WPL 2026.

India are 2-0 so far at the T20 World Cup having beaten Pakistan and Netherlands. Their next game is against South Africa on Sunday in Manchester.

Following Rawat's inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, she has been replaced by Niki Prasad in the India A T20 squad for the series against England A, and by Minnu Mani in the India A one-day squad for the series against England A.
