Toss Australia chose to bowl vs Bangladesh
Phoebe Litchfield has been ruled out of Australia's T20 World Cup game against Bangladesh on Wednesday as well as their next two matches after suffering an "acute quad injury" while batting in their tournament opener against South Africa. Allrounder Ash Gardner was also missing the game against Bangladesh following an "acute ankle inversion injury (sprain)".
Out in the middle in Leeds, Australia chose to bowl in the morning game in sunny conditions. They brought in Grace Harris and Megan Schutt in place of the injured players.
Cricket Australia said this was a fresh injury for Litchfield and not the one that made her miss the warm-up games of the T20 World Cup. Litchfield was Australia's top-scorer against South Africa with her 50 off 24 balls lifting them from 24 for 2. Gardner hadn't done much with the bat in that game, but took 1 for 16 from her three overs in Australia's 65-run win.
Australia captain Sophie Molineux hoped Litchfield would be fit in time for their last league game, against India on June 28. She was expecting some early help for the seamers in the game against Bangladesh - a 10.30am local time start - as conditions were overcast on Tuesday and the pitch had been covered almost the entire day. However, a fast outfield could help the batters later on.
Bangladesh made two changes from their opening win against Netherlands, who will play the second game of the day against India at the same ground. Bangladesh brought in Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun for Fariha Trisna and Sanjida Akter, which adds a spinner in place of a fast bowler to their XI.
