Miami (Ohio) pulls away in 4th, beats Austin Peay 31-10
OXFORD, Ohio -- Gus Ragland threw three touchdown passes and Miami (Ohio) pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Austin Peay 31-10 on Saturday.
Ragland was 11 of 23 for 145 yards passing. He threw a career-high 44 passes in the RedHawks' 31-26 loss to Marshall in last Saturday's opener.
Ragland threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Young, and connected on 42 and 34-yard scores to James Gardner to make it 21-7 at halftime.
Austin Peay (0-2) kept it close after the break, shutting out Miami (1-1) in the third quarter and pulling to 21-10 before the RedHawks' defense took over. Tony Reid forced an interception and recovered a fumble -- both from Jeremiah Oatsvall, the Governors' freshman quarterback -- to stall two Austin Peay drives inside Miami territory.
Leonard Ross bullied in from the 1 and Samuel Sloman kicked a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Miami.
