Woodside passes Toledo past Ball State 37-19 in thick fog
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Logan Woodside threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns, setting a Toledo single-season passing record, and the Rockets beat Ball State 37-19 in a thick fog Wednesday night.
Woodside, who has thrown for at least three touchdowns in every game this season, leads the nation with 40 TD throws. He has 3,653 yards passing, eclipsing former Toledo record-holder Bruce Gradkowski's 3,518 in 2004.
The victory by Toledo (9-2, 6-1) sets up sets up a showdown at No. 14 Western Michigan (10-0, 6-0) on Nov. 25 with the Mid-American Conference West title and a berth in the conference championship game at stake. Western Michigan is host to Buffalo (2-8, 1-5) on Saturday.
The loss ended a chance for Ball State (4-7, 1-6) to try and become bowl eligible.
Woodside passed to Jon'Vea Johnson for a 28-yard touchdown and Corey Jones returned a punt 63 yards for another score as Toledo took a 14-0 lead, going up 20-10 at halftime.
Woodside connected with Kareem Hunt on a 71-yard score and a 42-yarder to Cody Thompson in the third quarter.
