2nd-seed Illinois State ousts Western Illinois 36-19
NORMAL, Ill. -- Tre Roberson scored his second rushing touchdown to kick off the fourth quarter as No. 2 seed Illinois State used three late scores to sweep past Western Illinois 36-19 in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday.
Illinois State (10-2) advances to meet Richmond (9-3) in the quarterfinals Dec. 12.
The Red Birds led 7-6 at halftime, fell behind 12-7 in the third quarter but outscored Western Illinois (7-6) 21-7 in the fourth.
Roberson, who passed for two TDs, scored on a 5-yard run in the final minute of the third quarter and opened the fourth with a 32-yard rushing TD. After the Leathernecks pulled to 22-19, Anthony Warrum scored on a 21-yard pass from Roberson, and Marshaun Coprich capped the scoring with a 72-yard run up the right sideline.
Illinois State racked up 350 yards on the ground. Coprich led with 217 yards and two scores. Roberson rushed for 111 and passed for 132.
