Abilene Christian overwhelms Houston Baptist 49-21
ABILENE, Texas -- Parker McKenzie threw three touchdown passes, Herschel Sims ran for two more and Abilene Christian cruised to a 49-21 win over Houston Baptist on Saturday night.
Trailing 14-7 early in the second quarter, Abilene Christian (1-1, 1-0 Southland) scored 35 consecutive points to take control of the game. Jonathan Epps hauled in two touchdown catches from McKenzie, while Sims scored on 9- and 35-yard runs as the Wildcats won their third straight over Houston Baptist (1-2, 0-1).
De'Andre Brown punched in a touchdown from the 1, Cedric Gilbert caught an 8-yard TD pass from McKenzie and Jamie Walker grabbed a 3-yard pass from Cody Ennis for the Wildcats, who held the Huskies to just 74 yards passing.
Houston Baptist, in its third football season, got two rushing touchdowns from B.J. Kelly and a third from Mev Ajdin. Terrance Peters ran for 112 yards on 13 carries.
