Shafnisky leads Lehigh to 21-10 win over Bucknell
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Nick Shafnisky threw for one touchdown and ran for two more, leading Lehigh to a 21-10 win over Bucknell in a Patriot League opener for both teams Saturday.
Shafnisky completed 23 of 33 passes for 203 yards for the Mountain Hawks (3-3, 1-0) and picked up 68 yards rushing. Dominick Bragalone ran for 107 yards.
With Bucknell leading 7-0 late in the first quarter, Shafnisky ran 39 yards for a score, capping an 8-play, 73-yard drive. He took it in again from short yardage midway through the second quarter to put the Mountain Hawks up 14-7 at the break.
Shafnisky hit Drew Paulsen from 16 yards for a touchdown just before the end of the third quarter making it 21-10.
Lehigh held the Bison (3-2, 0-1) to just 55 yards rushing. Bucknell quarterback R.J. Nitti finished with 178 yards passing and a score, a 44-yard touchdown pass to Alan Butler.
