Wofford Terriers @ Mercer Bears
Wofford edges Mercer in overtime 34-33
MACON, Ga. -- Evan Jack scored in overtime, and David Marvin's extra point provided the difference to lift Wofford to a 34-33 win over Mercer in a Southern Conference opener for both teams Saturday night.
Mercer (2-2) recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter and forced overtime with a 23-yard field goal by Jagger Lieb. The Bears got the ball first in the extra session and took the lead with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Avery Ward to John Russ, but were left vulnerable when Lieb missed the PAT.
Wofford then tied it with Jacks' 14-yard TD run, setting up Marvin's game-winning kick.
Wofford (3-2) led most of the game, getting a career-high 187 yards rushing and a touchdown from Lorenzo Long and 112 yards on the ground and two touchdowns from Jack, who was held to just 43 yards passing. Ray Smith and Nick Colvin also ran in touchdowns for the Terriers.
