East Carolina pulls away from Tulsa, 30-17
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- James Summers threw for 127 yards and had two total touchdowns, Josh Hawkins returned an interception 100 yards for another score, and East Carolina beat Tulsa 30-17 on Saturday.
Chris Hairston finished with 82 yards rushing and Davon Grayson added 84 yards receiving on four catches for East Carolina (4-3, 1-1 American Conference).
Hawkins interception return occurred on the game's opening drive after Tulsa had marched 69 yards on 14 plays and gave the Pirates a lead they never relinquished.
East Carolina led 20-0 at the half, and a Davis Plowman 23-yard field goal late in the third extended the lead to 23-0.
The Golden Hurricane (3-3, 1-1) got on the board early in the fourth on a Zack Langer 1-yard run.
Langer finished with 76 yards on the ground for Tulsa, and Dane Evans had 288 yards passing.
East Carolina has won 25 straight games when leading at halftime.
