Hampton upsets Bethune-Cookman 40-35
HAMPTON, Va. -- Jerrell Antoine threw for 249 yards and five touchdowns, and Hampton upset Bethune-Cookman 40-35 on Thursday night, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats.
Antoine finished 21 of 35 and connected twice with SeQuan Gooding, who had seven catches for 145 yards, and twice with Rayshad Riddick. Twarn Mixson had the other touchdown catch for Hampton, which led 30-21 at halftime.
Seeking a share of the school's seventh Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title, Bethune-Cookman (8-3, 5-2 MEAC) entered the game with the nation's top-ranked defense against the run (70.1 yards per game). The Wildcats also were tops in total defense in the Football Championship Subdivision, allowing just 225.7 yards per game.
Hampton (3-8, 2-5) finished with 173 yards rushing, paced by Eric Carter Jr.'s 120 yards on 13 carries, and had 422 yards offensively.
Anthony Jordan ran for 81 yards and three TDs to pace Bethune-Cookman, while Michael Jones rushed for 92 yards and one score.
