Lehigh beats Holy Cross 34-20
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Freshman Nick Shafnisky threw two touchdowns and rushed for another as Lehigh beat Holy Cross 34-20 on Saturday.
Shafnisky replaced starting QB Matt McHale midway through the second quarter and played the remainder of the game. He was 11-of-12 for 136 yards and rushed for 55 yards on 13 carries. Leading rusher Keith Sherman had 17 carries for 141 yards and three touchdowns.
Shafnisky threw his first NCAA career touchdown pass with 13 seconds left in the half, a 19-yarder to Keith Sherman, to put the halftime score at 27-13. Another Shafnisky to Sherman TD pass in the third gave the Mountain Hawks (7-2, 2-1 Patriot) a comfortable 34-13 lead.
The Crusaders' lone touchdown pass came late in the third on a 24-yard toss from QB Peter Pujals to wide receiver Mike Fess.
The Mountain Hawks held the Crusaders (3-8, 1-3) to 67 yards of offense in the fourth quarter.
