Furman stops Samford 35-17
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Reese Hannon was 10 of 14 passing for 159 yards with a touchdown, leading Furman to a 35-17 victory over Samford Saturday.
Samford (6-4, 4-2 Southern Conference) was staying close, trailing 14-9 late in the second quarter, when Hannon completed an 85-yard scoring strike to Andrej Suttles to give Furman (5-5, 4-2) a 21-9 advantage.
The Bulldogs had 531 total yards, but were held to three field goals by the Furman defense until Fabian Truss scored on a 23-yard run late in the third quarter. Furman finished with 336 total yards.
Samford, trailing 28-17 in the final quarter, was driving for a late score when Marcus McMorris picked off a pass, returning it 89 yards for a score to seal the victory for the Paladins.
Samford's Andy Summerlin threw for 372 yards, completing 44 of 69 attempts in a losing effort. Samford has now lost two games in a row.
