Doyle passes UMass past Miami (Ohio), 17-10
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A.J. Doyle fired a 47-yard, third quarter touchdown pass to Rob Blanchflower to lift UMass to its first win of the season, 17-10 over winless Miami (Ohio) in a Mid-America Conference game Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
The victory matches the Minutemen's total victories from last year, their first year as a Football Bowl Subdivision member and first under Charley Molnar.
Doyle was 19 of 35 for 249 yards and two touchdowns for UMass (1-5, 1-1 MAC).
The RedHawks (0-6, 0-2 MAC) took a 10-7 lead in the third quarter on Kaleb Patterson's 45-yard field goal. Miami had the ball with a chance to tie in the final minute, but was stopped on fourth down.
The loss capped a turbulent week for the RedHawks. Head coach Don Treadway and offensive coordinator John Klacik were fired Sunday. Mike Bath was named interim head coach as well as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
