McNeil leads Tenn-Martin past Tenn Tech, 28-17
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- DJ McNeil ran for 168 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries to help Tennessee-Martin beat Tennessee Tech 28-17 on Thursday night.
Jarod Neal was 21 of 29 for 270 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score for the Skyhawks (4-2, 2-1 Ohio Valley).
Jared Davis was 14 of 24 for 139 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Eagles (3-4, 0-3), and Cody Matthews had seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown.
The Skyhawks led 28-3 at halftime. Neal was 16 of 20 for 195 yards and a touchdown in the half, and McNeil ran for 86 yards and a score on 13 carries and caught two passes for 23 yards.
Tennessee-Martin had 483 yards of total offense.
Jeremy Butler led the Skyhawks' receivers with four receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown. Chris Thompson added three catches for 68 yards.
Tony Bell had a season-high 10 tackles for the Skyhawks and added a pair of sacks. Camaren Harris made nine stops, had an interception and accounted for all three of Martin's pass breakups.
