Nicholls State Colonels @ Western Michigan Broncos
Nicholls State holds on for 27-23 win over WMU
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Josh Dewey intercepted a pass at the goal line in the final minute to preserve a 27-23 victory for Nicholls State over Western Michigan on Saturday.
Western Michigan (0-2) began the drive at its own 12-yard-line with less than two minutes to play and needing a touchdown to win. The Broncos drove all the way to the Nicholls State 24 before Tyler Van Tubbergen's 2nd-and-10 pass was intercepted to end the rally as Nicholls State rebounded from its 66-3 loss to Oregon last week.
Nicholls State (1-1) took a 14-0 first quarter lead with touchdown runs by Marcus Washington and Kalen Henderson. The Colonels later extended their lead to 21-9 with another touchdown run by Washington.
Brian Fields' three touchdown runs gave Western Michigan a 23-21 third quarter lead, but two field goals from Andrew Dolan put Nicholls State on top for good.
