MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Julian Hayes rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, one to help Monmouth take a 17-0 first-quarter lead, and the Hawks held off Robert Morris 26-21 Saturday.

Monmouth (5-5, 4-3 Northeast Conference) opened the scoring on Hayes' 2-yard run before Eric Spillane's 21-yard field goal. Kyle Frazier (22 of 27 passing, 258 yards) hit Tristan Roberts for an 11-yard touchdown and the Hawks (5-5, 4-3) led 17-0.

After a scoreless second quarter, Robert Morris (4-7, 3-5) scored twice early in the third. Deontae Howard ran 20 yards for a Colonials' touchdown. The first of Jeff Sinclair's two touchdown passes -- a 39-yarder to Duane Mitchell -- cut the deficit to 17-14.

Spillane's 43-yard field goal gave Monmouth a 20-14 cushion after three quarters, and Hayes' 22-yard scoring run made it 26-14. Midway through the fourth quarter, Sinclair threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell. But Monmouth held on to win.
