Yale Bulldogs @ Cornell Big Red
Cornell 45, Yale 6
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Jeff Mathews threw three touchdowns and Cornell scored 35 points in the first half of its 45-6 win over Yale on Saturday in the Ivy League opener for both teams.
Cornell (1-1) took advantage of Yale's early mistakes, scoring an 11-yard touchdown following an Andrew Nelson interception to take a 7-0 lead. The Big Red jumped ahead 14-0 behind a Mathews 14-yard touchdown pass after Yale's Cameron Sandquist muffed a punt return.
The rout continued into the second quarter, as Cornell scored three more touchdowns, including two passing TDs from Mathews.
Mathews, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, finished with 340 yards on 29-of-39 passing. Mathews has completed 142 of 186 passes for 1,898 yards, 16 touchdowns and one interception over his last four games dating back to last season.
The win snaps a two-game skid against Yale (1-1) and cuts the Bulldogs' all-time series lead to 44-29-2.
