Florida A&M 31, Norfolk State 17

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Rashard Pompey ran for 181 yards and

Roosevelt Kiser caught 11 passes for 142 yards to lead Florida A&M

to a 31-17 win against Norfolk State on Saturday.

Pompey, who rushed for 110 of his yards in the second half,

scored on an 8-yard run with 8:27 left in the fourth quarter to

clinch the win for Florida A&M (3-4, 2-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic

Conference).

Norfolk State (1-6, 0-5 MEAC) has never beaten Florida A&M in

eight tries. Quarterback Brandon Brooks completed 8-of-18 passes

for 165 yards to lead the Spartans.

Norfolk State tied the game 17-17 with 5:15 left in the third

quarter when defensive back Daniel Hammett intercepted a pass by

Florida A&M backup quarterback Albert Chester and returned it 92

yards for a touchdown.

But Florida A&M took the lead for good with 1:50 left in the

third quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Chester to Willie

Hayward.

Florida A&M used two touchdown passes by starting quarterback

Josh Driscoll to take a 17-10 halftime lead.

Driscoll, playing for the first time since injuring his groin

Sept. 17, threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Aubrey Parrish and a

5-yard touchdown to Kiser. But Chester eventually was forced to

enter the game after Driscoll re-aggravated the injury.

Kiser caught nine passes for 120 yards in the first half and

also returned a punt 75 yards.

Norfolk State got its only touchdown of the first half on an

8-yard keeper by Brooks. The teams exchanged field goals near the

end of the half.
