Delaware 34, James Madison 28

NEWARK, Del. (AP) -- Omar Cuff rushed for 236 yards and four

touchdowns to lead Delaware past James Madison 34-28 on Saturday in

a matchup of the last two Division I-AA national champions.

Cuff's 60-yard touchdown run with 2:45 remaining sealed the

victory for the Blue Hens (4-3, 1-3 Atlantic 10), who snapped a

three-game losing streak, avoiding their longest losing streak

since 1967. His rushing total was the second-highest in Delaware's

history.

Justin Rascati went 20-of-32 for 213 yards and two touchdowns

for the Dukes (4-3, 2-2), including an 18-yard strike to Kasime

Harris with 1:29 remaining. Delaware recovered the ensuing onside

kick and ran out the clock.

James Madison took a 7-6 lead on Maurice Fenner's 4-yard run

early in the second quarter. Cuff's second 1-yard touchdown put the

Blue Hens on top 14-7 with 2:45 remaining in the half, but James

Madison tied it on Rascati's 12-yard run with 37 seconds left.

Delaware took a two-touchdown lead midway through the fourth

quarter when Riccio hit Justin LaForgia from 2 yards out. James

Madison struck quickly, pulling within 28-21 on Rascati's 22-yard

pass to L.C. Baker. But the Dukes couldn't come back after Cuff's

long touchdown.

The Blue Hens had to move a scheduled home game to Richmond on

Oct. 15 because the field in Delaware Stadium was unplayable.

Approximately half the surface was re-sodded earlier in the week

and held up on Saturday in a steady rain.
