Nevada 30, San Jose State 23

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Jeff Rowe passed for 226 yards and two

touchdowns, including the tiebreaker with 3:39 left, leading Nevada

to a 30-23 victory over San Jose State on Saturday.

Rowe opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Kyle

Sammons 3:16 into the game. As the clock ran down in the first

quarter, senior B.J. Mitchell scored on a 13-yard run to put the

Wolf Pack up 13-0.

Nick Hawthorne picked off a pass from Adam Tafralis and returned

it 40 yards for a touchdown to give Nevada (2-2, 1-0 Western

Athletic Conference) a 20-0 lead with 14:10 left in the second.

The Spartans (1-3, 0-1) then scored 20 straight points to pull

into a tie. Tafralis had a 19-yard TD pass to John Broussard, Jared

Strubeck had a 44-yard field goal and Tafralis connected with Rufus

Skillern from 28 yards out to close the gap to 20-17 at the half.

Strubeck tied the score with a 27-yard field goal with 3:14 left

in the third.

Nevada's Brett Jaekle regained the lead with a 32-yard field

goal with 8:51 left in the game, before Strubeck tied it again from

39 yards out with 6:25 left.

Rowe completed 20 of 35 passes for 226 yards for Nevada, which

got its first road win since a 28-21 victory at Tulsa on October

18, 2003.

Strubeck became just the 11th Spartans kicker to make three

field goals in a game.
