News: 4 days agoHampton rushed 23 times for 94 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for 21 yards in the Chargers' 26-14 loss to the Raiders on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.

Spin: Hampton put together a perfectly useful fantasy performance in the Chargers' alarming upset loss, spearheading Los Angeles' ground attack while handling a workhorse role. Hampton added a one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, but his lost fumble in Raiders territory with 3:52 remaining in the game and the Bolts trying to erase a three-point deficit was a back-breaker, as it led to Las Vegas' game-clinching touchdown. Hampton has a rushing touchdown in each of the first two games of the new season but has a pair of lost fumbles as well. Nevertheless, the talented back will remain in the lead role for a Week 3 road showdown against the Bills next Sunday, a critical early-season contest for Jim Harbaugh's squad.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Hampton is primed for a breakout second season following an impressive but injury-shortened rookie campaign. The first-round pick was busy during nine appearances, averaging 13.8 carries and 3.9 targets. He scored five touchdowns, averaged 15.1 fantasy points per game (13th best) and ranked third among backs in forced missed tackle rate, per PFF. With Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell as his primary competition, Hampton has a clear path to lead rusher duties in 2026, and his targets only figure to increase with Greg Roman out and Mike McDaniel in as the team's playcaller. Add in a much-improved offensive line with star tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater back healthy, and Hampton has nothing short of elite upside. Value him as a fringe RB1 with room for more.
