Michigan lands ESPN 300 WR Ahmir Mitchell

Michigan landed ESPN 300 wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell on Thursday when the New Jersey prospect chose the Wolverines over rival Ohio State. Mitchell gives Michigan 23 commitments now in the 2016 class.

Prior to the commitment, Michigan held the No. 10 ranked class overall and now with seven ESPN 300 commits, could be in line for a boost.

Mitchell now joins Ron Johnson Jr. and Brad Hawkins as the three ESPN 300 commitments hailing from New Jersey, which is the most out of the Garden State for Michigan since at least 2006.

The coaching staff is hoping that number continues to rise, though, as No. 1 ranked Rashan Gary is still a major target.

The 6-foot-3, 206-pound receiver gives Michigan a much needed big bodied receiver, as he is the tallest receiver Michigan has landed since the 2014 class with Drake Harris and Maurice Ways.

With 23 commitments, Michigan likely only has a few spots remaining in the class, but still has some big targets left on the board. With the Big Ten allowing teams to oversign by three, the Wolverines can try to add two to five more prospects depending on the total scholarship amount.
