Alabama loses ESPN 300 commit Shyheim Carter

Cornerback Shyheim Carter, the No. 41-ranked player in the ESPN 300,, backed off of his pledge to Alabama on Monday morning after being committed to the Crimson Tide for just over a year.

The 6-foot, 177-pound athlete from Kentwood (Louisiana) High School, announced his decision via Twitter.

Now that Carter is back on the market, the home-state LSU Tigers, as well as Georgia and Ole Miss appear to be squarely in the picture for the talented defensive back. After Carter visited Georgia in July, the Bulldogs might be the biggest threat to land the talented defender. Georgia was also able to flip another Alabama defensive back commit Rico McGraw in the 2015 recruiting class.

The loss of Carter, the fifth-ranked cornerback in the ESPN 300, is significant -- considering he was the only cornerback who had been committed to Alabama. The Crimson Tide now have 18 commits including nine ranked in the ESPN 300. Alabama will turn their sites to ESPN 300 cornerback Nigel Knott and athlete Trevon Diggs, who could play offense or defense on the next level.

Carter has no timeframe for when he would like to make a final decision.
