DT signee Du'Vonta Lampkin says he's no longer headed to Texas

A three-star signee in Texas' incoming recruiting class could end up playing on the other side of the Red River.

Three-star Houston defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin told the Cypress Creek Mirror's Adam Coleman that Lampkin will be not be attending Texas after all. The Oklahoma website Football Brainiacs first reported that Lampkin had encountered a snag in enrolling at Texas, due to a foreign language requirement. Instead of taking summer school and still attempting to qualify at Texas, Lampkin said he's now looking at other options.

"If I take that summer school class now for Spanish and it doesn't go well, then I end up in a junior college," Lampkin told the Mirror. "That's not the route I really want to take."

One route Lampkin might take instead is Oklahoma; the Sooners pursued Lampkin until he committed and signed with the Longhorns.

"If anything, I may land at Oklahoma," Lampkin said. "I'm very comfortable with their coaching staff. So, as soon as everything dials down, I'm going to contact [Bob] Stoops and see if they have any scholarships available for me."

If it doesn't work out with the Sooners, Lampkin will likely have opportunities elsewhere. He had a host of offers before signing with Texas, including from Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma State.

Either way, someone will be adding a talented 300-pound defensive tackle piece to their recruiting class. Coming at the expense of the Longhorns.
